Let's look into the ways to make it happen. First yiou want to get your hands on one of these great new technologically amazing devices. Most of us grew up on film cameras and now we can do everything on digital.

Size matters in cameras. If you want to slip your camera in your bag or pocket and take it everywhere then you need to have one of the nice small cameras out onthe market. Now these can do a fine job of taking great pictures for you.

If you want to take pictures like the pros then you might want one of the high quality digital SLR cameras that are now more affordable than ever. With these cameras you will now be in the area where you can take photos that can be printed as large as 8x10 inches on todays photo printers at home or with one of the online digital imaging services.

Digital cameras - what do you have on board?

Let's run through the various things you get on todays digital camera, from the compact to the full sized SLR. You need to go through them and determine what exactly it is the make and model that fits for you.

As we have discussed above there is the size issue. They come in the ultra compact all the way up to three pound, you need two hands to hold them cameras. So if you want to slip one in your pocket you go for the compact and if you want to do everything and anything photographic you go for the SLR versions.

Video

Yes many of the digital cameras on the market today can shoot video as well as take still images. Is it great? Not really. The video will chew up your memory in a hurry but I tell you if you are somewhere and you find you just have to get it on video this can be nice feature. I was at my son's swim meet this past summer and did not bring my video camera for some reason. I noticed that his stroke had really improved and I wanted to document it. I shot ten seconds of video of his race and then loaded it to the family computer. Worked great. Nothing fancy. It won't air on the nightly news but it works.

LCD Screen

The size of the LCD screen for viewing images is nice if you take your pictures using that screen and not the viewfinder window. However you should realize that using the LCD screen all the time will limit your battery life. This feature needs energy so if you need to prolong the life of your batteries don't use the LCD all the time.
