Our perspective
I came from the age of film cameras. My photo albums from childhood are made up of
some very fragile black and white images taken with Brownie cameras. Yours will now
consist of a wide selection of options. You can capture on memory cards, print selected
images and put them into wonderful albums, or you can assemble a huge slide show and
put it onto a CD ROM, DVD or mobile device and take it with you to show it on
computers or TV's. In fact you can now take digital pictures and then transfer them to an electronic photo frame on the wall! Amazing stuff isn't it? All this has come about in such a
short amount of time.
Here are some of the great imaging options.
Small, in fact tiny, consumer cameras that can be taken with you everywhere you go. Generally the resolution ranges from 1-1.3 megapixels. Slide them into your pocket, purse or backpack and take them with you anywhere you go.
Medium sized, full featured cameras that take high quality images and
have good lenses to get close to the action. This is a very wide category. The price range here can run from $300-$600.
Full sized, high end, high quality professional SLR cameras that do everything the pros need them to do all on memory cards which means versatility, speed, and maximum ability to be creative. These cameras usually have 2-4 megapixel resolution, advanced priority modes, zoom lenses, the ability to record mpeg movies. At the highest end of this range are the professional Digi SLR cameras. Thes cameras go from $800 to the sky! The top camera makers such as Canon, Pentax, Nikon, Sgima and others offer fine cameras in this range that have 4+ megapixel resolution and the ability to use interchangeable lenses.
Picture phones, these products are sweeping the market today. Basically a low quality camera that is with you whenever you have your phone.
Incredibly cheap digital cameras that everyone can afford. These may lack a zoom lens, may depend on a CMOS sensors instead of the CCD'S of more expensive cameras, but they still can produce excellant photos which can be printed at the 6x4 inch size print.
